CIRCUMZENITHAL ARCS

Circumzenithal arcs look like a partial rainbow appearing straight above your head. It can be located by facing the
sun, and looking up. It will look like a smile. A good indicator for sighting one is when a sun halo appears,
or when the air is cold and snow crystals are blowing over. The appearance of sundogs can also announce its coming.
This phenomenon is one part of larger picture.

A pair of glasses with polarized lenses is required, not only to protect the eyes, but most of these sky phenomenon can't be detected without them!

An awesome display of colors in a passing contrail!

These arcs were brilliant! I ran a hard city block to get my camera. They don't appear this bright too often.
There was also the elusive halo that went with this arc, and I do mean elusive...

I now take my Pentax k1000 to work most mornings, never knowing where or when any sky phenomenon will occur.
Sometimes they appear without warning, as did this arc. Such vibrant colors for a Circumzenithal arc!

This is a collection of my first 'up-side-down rainbows'.

Here is a rare shot of a Circumzenithal arc and a sun halo. Usually the halo can be seen without any difficulty,
but to photograph both is a rare treat!
