Lightning photography is difficult and dangerous. And it is certainly thrilling! To stand outside while lightning
is dancing all around, and you don't know when or where the next one will strike! I have not seen any good lightning
strikes around here in years.. nothing I have been able to shoot! There is either too much rain, or the lightning is
hidden within the clouds. I can't hold my umbrella and shoot at the same time, and my wife refuses to hold it. Maybe
my son will...
Wow! What a show! Usually, I don't get to stand outside and photograph the lightning too often - without it raining.
I watched and shot for about an hour. Spectacular!
The stormfront was coming in from the northwest. I could see the lightning from my livingroom couch, starting at
about 9pm. At 10pm, I loaded my gear into my van, and took off to an open area of sky, 2 miles away. As the storm
moved towards me, I shot various points of the horizon. Just as the storm was overhead, it started to sprinkle. One
last shot yielded the first shot below. (I did get a couple of good shots...)

I had an opportunity to shoot some lightning photos on Sept 19. It was a little different from the night before, where
these strikes were striking downward as opposed to reaching across the sky. There was lightning striking to the east,
the south-east, the south, and to the south-west! It was hard choosing where to point the camera to catch a bolt.

I had an opportunity to shoot some lightning on Sept 18. It was an awesome display in which my wife and oldest
son shared with me. We watched fingers reaching out of the storm clouds, never knowing which way they were going to
point next! This storm moved across the west heading north, while we stood on the sidelines out of danger.
