Sunspots. Across the face of a glaring sun lie secrets unknown to ancient man. Within the intense brightness
appears black spots ranging in size from the size of our earth, to more than 50 earths! The diameter of the earth is
7908 miles. The distance from the earth to the sun is 92,752,000 miles (1 Astronomical Unit or AU). Sometimes we can
see these sunspots without telescopes. From these 'holes' blow the solar winds. Sometimes these winds carry charged
particles towards the earth, which when conditions are right, tangle with earths magnetic field, producing the
awesome Northern lights!
Note: Do not look at the sun without eye protection! The sun will do permanent eye damage!
