WATERS

Water. The world is so big, we can't imagine. Where over 70% of the earths' surface is water, we still can't
comprehend the size of the remaining 30% of dry land. Where we go are rushing waters, soothing waters, calm
still waters. From small creeks to swift powerful rivers, to wide flat bodies of water, to here.

*(These photos were taken with the Nikon Coolpix 8700 digital camera. Excellent camera!)

In the village of New Haven, Michigan, there is a small lake where I venture to on occasion to shoot water fowl,
or reflections in the water. I found it to be a good source for sunrise fog photos. Here are a few...

Returning from a small outing on Harsens Island, I spotted this bridge connecting one of the many little islands
which make up the whole island.

A familiar sight for those living along the St. Clair River. Freighters, both local and foreign, plying the
Great Lakes water system.

On August 25th, my wife and I visited the waters of the south channel and were fortunate enough to see a beautiful
sunrise on the river!
Here are a couple of early morning photos, and a few more of the old lighthouses.

On Sept. 7th, my family and I took a trip on the waters of the Anchor bay and the St. Clair Flats area, around
the Harsens and Dickenson Islands. What an expanse of water! To the west of Harsens Island, between the Middle and the
South channels of the St. Clair River, stand two old sentinels of the water ways. Ageing and in disrepair, these two
light-houses still stand tall (tho one has a slight lean...) in remembrance of days gone by.

The Beautiful St. Clair River as it flows past the shores of Marine City, Michigan. From this waters edge have the
countless passing of many freighters, both domestic and foreign, been witnessed for decades. Ore carriers being the
dominate vessels. I have seen the passing of a navy destroyer and a replica of an ancient viking ship. I have seen
the Tall ships pass this way only recently.

The frozen waters of the Maple River located near my wife's parents house in Pellston, Michigan.

Water world. I grew-up just 5 miles from what is known as the 'Venice of Michigan'. I was raised on farm lands, with
the nightly glow over Anchor Bay visible in the southwest sky. Approximately 13 miles to the east is the mighty St.
Clair river. To the south, Algonac, with all the canals and seawalls, and the fishing boats dotting the waters. The
St. Clair river splits into the North and the South Channels. The North Channel again splits further to the west into
the Middle Channel to form Dickenson Island. Between the Middle and the South Channels is Harsens Island. To the
western side of the island, the land melts into the Little Muskamoot and the Big Muskamoot Bays.
What a difference between life on the solid land, and the life on the constantly moving waters. A totally different
feel taking the ferry across to the island and leaving the fast pace of the world behind. Calm, soothing waters.

  Take a look...
